Well water testing
The Kane County Farm Bureau and Kane/DuPage Soil and Water Conservation District offer a water testing program each year in February. A high quality water supply is vital for families and this program helps provide peace of mind and identifies potential problem areas for homeowners of Kane County.

Costs vary for the program depending on which tests you wish to have performed on your water. The following kits are available:

A. Basic Package (Nitrate Package)
The basic package tests for nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, chloride, sulfate, soluble phosphorous, silica and specific conductivity.

B. Pesticide Screen
A pesticide screen will indicate the presence of triazine herbicides, lasso, dual or harness.

C. Volatile Organic Chemicals
This kit tests for 46 different volatile organic chemicals.

D. Metals
This kit tests for 23 different metals.
Detailed sampling instructions will be included in each kit, and additional information on how each test can help you is provided at the Farm Bureau or Kane/DuPage Soil and Water Conservation’s District offices.

Please call the Kane County Farm Bureau office at 630-584-8660 if you would like additional information or have any questions.

To make sure your soil has an accurate test reading, there are three steps to follow:
1) For one soil test, collect 5 soil samples by cutting a one-inch hole about six inches deep (three inches deep for existing lawn). You should have at least one cup of soil. Do not include the layer of dead or live plant material in sample.
2) Complete the Soil Test Form. Click here for a printable PDF of the Soil Test Form. Please be as detailed as possible to receive the best recommendations.  The Soil Test Forms are also available at the Farm Bureau office.
3) You may bring your sample directly to Kane County Farm Bureau, 2N710 Randall Road, St. Charles.  Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30am to 5pm  Please call the office at (630) 584-8660 if you have any questions.

The test results and recommendations will be sent directly to you in 10-14 business days.
