Summer Ag Institute - Kane County Agricultural Tour for Teachers
2017 Date: June 12-16
This weeklong course focusing on agriculture offers three graduate credit hours in cooperation with Aurora University, or attendance credit through Kane County ROE. The tour helps pre K-12 grade teachers integrate instruction about the food and fiber industry into their present curriculum
The course includes field trips to food science labs, farms, and other production enterprises, agribusinesses such as food processors, research facilities, retailers, and horticultural operations.
Teachers attending the Summer Ag Institute will learn about agriculture, the entire food and fiber system, consumer issues relating to agriculture, teaching innovations and available teaching resources. Teachers will also have the opportunity to apply new understanding in developing new and unique classroom lessons for easy integration into their curriculum.
Former attendees’ declare, “As a teacher, I’ve always known the role I play in the student’s future-now I realize that teachers and agriculture are responsible for the future of our world.” A 2005 session participant called it a “Fantastic, jammed packed week of new ideas and information to use in the classroom.”
The sessions provide elementary and secondary teachers a better understanding of the complexity, scope and scale of Illinois agriculture, its impact on each person’s life and on the economy of Illinois and the nation.
A second class, Summer Ag Institute II, is available for SAI graduates.Topics for this 4-day class and tour have included STEM and Agriculture.

The Kane County Farm Bureau in partnership with Aurora University and local agriculturalists organizes the Summer Institute. Two graduate credits are offered through Aurora University or attendance credit will be offered through the Kane County ROE.
